Chegg is an Internet textbook rental company built with the philosophy of saving college students money. Created in 2001 by 3 Iowa State University students, Chegg rents textbooks by ordering through their website and returning the books after the semester has ended. They offer college students the capability to save around 50% of the cost of a text book purchase and pays for shipping both ways. .
The name Chegg is a combination of the words chicken and egg, based on the creators experience after graduating from college. They found that they couldn't land a job without experience, but couldn't get experience without a job, hence which came first, the chicken and egg type predicament.
